SCROLL

Mark Noe, CMHC

Mark Noe, CMHC was born in Iowa and grew up in Illinois near the banks of the Mississippi river. After High School he attended Western Illinois University, graduating in 2004 with a BS in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Administration. As a requirement for this degree he completed a 12-week internship in Utah at a Wilderness program as a Field Instructor. It only took 1 shift to realize this was the industry in which he wanted to build a career.

After working as a Field Instructor for a 1 and a half years he accepted a job in the administration. Mark held various positions over his 10-year tenure in wilderness therapy including Staff Director and Field Director always ensuring his job involved staying connected to the clients.

In 2012 he pursued his life goal of becoming a therapist. While working on a MS in Mental Health Counseling, he left the wilderness to broaden his clinical experience. Mark spent 2 years working at a state-run adult residential treatment center gaining experience evaluating, diagnosing, and counseling clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.

Beginning in 2016 Mark worked as a therapist with young adults in a transitional living program before joining the team at Star Guides and returning to his wilderness roots.

Over the years he has learned that rapport is vital to a working therapeutic alliance and creating an environment that empowers the client to succeed. This can take various forms and Mark likes to use different approaches depending on the client including CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Client-Centered Therapy, and skill development using DBT techniques.

When not at work or in the gym, Mark enjoys spending time with his two children, camping, playing guitar, live music, sports and traveling.
